Configuration Management Database (CMDB)

CMDB is a storehouse that acts as a database for information technology (IT) installations and Services. It is also known as Asset management. Hence, CMDB allows you to document all your IT asset and Services at one place. Also, you would be able to define relationship between multiple assets. For example: If you have a Laptop and a printer running at a specific Network. You can link those assets by defining relationship between them.

We have the audit log feature to trace the operations performed on the asset from procurement till the asset's life span.

Also, you would be able to import and export the asset list using .CSV format.

Note: Before adding the Asset you have to add the CI type and Product under the product catalog using the below steps:

Admin setting >> Asset >>> CI/Product

There are 2 ways by which you can add the list of assets into the system :

1. Manually adding Asset

2. Importing Asset list in CSV format.

  • Manually adding Asset : Vision Helpdesk allows you to add the Asset manually one by one.

To Add Asset : Go to CMDB >> Click on “option” (on the top right hand corner) >> Add CI

Assets are domain specific, if you are using multiple domain you would get a drop-down of domains under which you want to add the asset. You can select the Asset's configuration type i.e whether it is Hardware, Software or service etc.

  • Importing Existing Asset List:

You can import the existing asset list into Vision Helpdesk into .CSV format.

How to import Assets :

If your organization has list of assets, you can import it into Vision Helpdesk using one Click in .CSV format. Importing of asset is hassle free job, just group asset into CI type for eg: All Hardware to be grouped into CI Hardware and import it into CMDB.

Go to CMDB option >> Click on “option” >> Import

Here, you will get an option to map the Database fields with your .CSV files to import the asset. Just drag and drop the fields into .CSV field option.

How to Export Asset :

You can Export the Asset list into various format such as .CSV, HTML and XLXS and also you can send that asset list to your email address.

Asset Filter :

You can filter the asset list based on CI type and also by clicking on filter icon on right most corner. Add details to filter the Asset by Name, Location, CI type, Domain,Impact, Risk, Lifecycle Status, Disposition status, Asset department, Used by, Managed by, Vendor, Product , Asset state, Asset tag, serial Number etc.

Filtering Based on CI : You can filter the asset based on CI type, click on the filter option above the asset list and select the CI type for example if you want to see the list of all the Hardwares then select the Hardware from the list.

Linking Asset with Incident : Incidents can be linked with assets and can be viewed under Asset profile under CMDB. For example : When you receive a Incident related to asset, then over a Incident you can link the Asset for which client has raised the Incident.
