Step-by-Step Guide: Generate Google App Password for Vision Helpdesk Email queue and SMTP
Step 1: Open Google Account Settings
- Visit:https://myaccount.google.com
- Sign in with your Gmail account if you're not already logged in.
- On the left-hand menu, click on "Security".
Step 2: Enable 2-Step Verification (Required)
Important: App Passwords can only be created after enabling 2-Step Verification.
- In the Security section, scroll down to "Signing in to Google".
- Click on "2-Step Verification".
3. Click "Get Started" and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Add your phone number or use the Google Authenticator app as your second verification step.
5. Once you complete the setup, you will be redirected back to the security settings.
Note: You must enable 2-Step Verification to access the App Passwords option.
Step 3: Generate App Password
- Return to the Security
tab in your Google Account:https://myaccount.google.com/security
- Type in the Search bar "App Passwords".
4. Click on "App Passwords".
5. You will be prompted to enter your Google account password again.
Step 4: Create App Password for SMTP (Vision Helpdesk)
- Enter a name like: Vision Helpdesk SMTP
- Click Generate.
Step 5: Copy the App Password
- A 16-character password will appear, formatted like: abcdefghijklmnop
- Copy this password and save it securely.
(Note: You will not be able to view it again after this step.)
Step 6A: Use the App Password in Vision Helpdesk SMTP Settings:
(Skip to Step 6B in case of Email Queue Configuration)
- Log in to the Vision Helpdesk admin panel.
- Navigate to Admin Settings → Email → SMTP, and open the existing SMTP configuration.
- In the Password field, paste the 16-digit App Password you copied earlier.
4. Save the settings and check the working.
Step 6B: Use the App Password in Vision Helpdesk Email Queue Settings:
- Log in to the Vision Helpdesk admin panel.
- Navigate to Admin Settings → Email → Email Queue, and open the Email hosted by Gmail.
- In the Password field, paste the 16-digit App Password you copied earlier.
4. Save the settings and check the working.
